I’m teaching a fundamentals class at the Zen Buddhist Temple this Saturday in Ann Arbor, MI (USA), from 1–4 pm.
Sometimes “beginners” classes teach fundamentals, but aren’t geared towards true beginners, or aren’t entirely appropriate for total novices. This is a true beginners class; no previous experience with the form is necessary or expected.
Here’s what I’m planning to cover and emphasize:
- coming in and out of the floor
- weight-sharing
- rolling point of contact
- waiting, listening, and relaxing; being unintentional
And I’ll cover these additionally as time allows:
- setting boundaries
- falling
- floor work
- jam negotiation
