All ongoing New York City contact improvisation events suspended under further notice

Update Tuesday, March 17, 2020, 12:20am:
As reflected on the Contact Improvisation in NYC page on this blog, all ongoing contact improvisation events in New York City have been suspended until further notice. This includes: Monday class, Tuesday pre-jam class, Tuesday jam, Wednesday class, Thursday class, Friday jam, Saturday jam, Sunday Underscore, and Sunday WMAC jam.

Update March 7, 2020, 1:15pm:
In addition to the New York City Tuesday jam, Saturday jam, and Tuesday pre-jam class, the Monday morning class is also suspended under further notice, per Tim O’Donnell.

Update March 7, 2020, 9:35am:
New York City Tuesday jam, Saturday jam, and Tuesday pre-jam class continue to be suspended under further notice. Here’s an e-mail from Charlie Mosey with more information:

Hello friend,

This is a mass email to those who have been to the jams recently, and that I have your email address.

The Saturday and Tuesday Jams have been suspended until further notice, the Tuesday basic class has been suspended as well.

My reasons for this include:

  • Confirmed community transmission of the COVID-19 virus in the city.
  • In anticipation of Public Heath [sic] officials soon asking that unnecessary social gathering be cancelled. This happened in Seattle in less then a week after the first community transmission was identified.
  • The lack of mass testing means that the scope of the problem is unclear and that Public Heath [sic] response is hampered.
  • That my responsibility as a facilitator extends beyond just the safety of jam participants to the wider community to help slow transmission as much as possible.

I will post updates on the Contact Improv NYC facebook group, as well as this list.

Please help get the word out.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Be dancing with you soon,Charlie

Quick bulletin (March 6, 2020): per Charlie Mosey, the Tuesday and Saturday jams in New York City are suspended until further notice, due to spread of the COVID-9 virus. The Tuesday pre-jam class is also suspended.

I’ll update this post as I learn more or if anything changes.

    Hi,
I miss dancing with others so much. Now that it’s warm and whoever wants to has the opportunity to be vaccinated, and whoever prefers remaining virtual can choose to do so, can we open to opportunity to dance (perhaps inside, perhaps outside) for those who feel called to take this step?
It no longer feels appropriate to indefinitely suspend dancing to consenting adults who wish to dance for their wellbeing and joy.
    Thanks,
    Phoebe
